My name is Linda and I’m the author of TRUZEST. This is the awkward part of the blog where I need to share my story with you. I use the word ‘awkward’ because I consider myself to be an extroverted introvert – outgoing, but shy at times and usually private. Writing a blog is anything but private. This process is pushing me out of my comfort zone, but that’s where the growth really begins. It’s a process that we all battle: linger in the familiar or move forward into the unknown. That’s how TRUZEST came to be; it’s a creative outlet and it’s an opportunity to reach out and encourage others to push through self-imposed barriers.
So back to the awkward part…here’s my story.
I’m a first-generation American, born and raised in Chicago with my two sisters. Our parents immigrated from Croatia, so we grew up speaking a mix of what I like to call CroEnglish. I caught the travel bug early on and have been fortunate to work abroad in Croatia for half a year and study in Rome, Italy for a full year. Throughout my life, I have always had a passion for writing and story-telling. There were times when I rejected my love for writing and would entertain ideas of following a more conventional path: law school, becoming an Italian language professor, a career in marketing. It’s now clear that I was attempting to distract myself from doing what felt ‘right’ all along – and of course it’s the scariest option. It is the option that puts me on a platter for observation and judgement. On the flip side, it’s the creative outlet that I continually turn to.
As fate would have it, I was approached to join The Chicago Screenwriters Network (CSN) where I acted as a judge for their Annual Screenwriting Contest and served as their VP of Promotions. That experience solidified my path as a writer, where I feel most authentic and energized. CSN is also where I met my loving and always supportive husband, Alex. A year later, we decided to take a chance, pack our bags and move out west to sunny Arizona. Fast forward 6 years, I’m living in living in the desert, I am the mother of an amazingly sweet 4 1/2 year-old boy, and I’m taking a stab at blogging.
Enough about me…what’s your story? What is the zest that you have been chasing, or even running from? Looking at your dreams head on can be scary, but I’m a big believer in a ‘No guts. No glory’ approach.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
